Cataloging/Metadata Librarian - California State University Fullerton Pollak

Faculty, Part-time

California State University Fullerton Pollak Library is seeking an energetic, collaborative and service-centered cataloging and metadata librarian who is innovative, technologically adept and has experience working with cataloging and metadata standards and tools.

Position

Reporting to the Head of the Collections and Processing (CPS) Unit, the Cataloging/Metadata Librarian works in close collaboration with personnel from appropriate Library units to coordinate cataloging and metadata work performed by staff or librarians in the CPS Unit for all types of formats.

In this part-time, 30-hours per week position, the successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating current procedures, developing policies, and assessing emerging standards and best practices in light of the evolving needs of the campus community.

Responsibilities

* Serve as Coordinator of the Cataloging Section.

* Create and maintain original cataloging records.

* Resolve complex copy cataloging and post-cataloging problems

* Coordinate current cataloging policies in accordance with

developing national standards and shifting local needs, including chairing the Cataloging Policy Team and writing Cataloging Policy Documents for the section.

* Create and advise on the maintenance of authority records as needed.

* Coordinate with vendors to acquire catalog records meeting appropriate standards.

* Participate in CPS Unit leadership team, setting goals and defining strategies for making resources discoverable by the Cal State Fullerton community.

Qualifications

Required:

* Master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA- accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.

* At least three years of experience cataloging library materials.

* Knowledge of national standards, such as AACR2 (revised), USMARC, LCSH, LC Classification, MARCIVE, CONSER and RDA.

* In depth experience with the cataloging module and OPAC from Innovative Interfaces, Inc. (III) library system or similar ILS cataloging and OPAC modules.

* Ability to coordinate with vendors to acquire cataloging records meeting appropriate standards.

* Familiarity with workflow and metrics assessment.

* Strong leadership skills and the ability to work both independently and collegially in a demanding and rapidly changing environment.

* Well-developed analytical, organizational and communications skills (oral, written, and interpersonal).

* Ability and willingness to work in a team environment and on projects within other units of the library.

Preferred

* Experience with RDA formatted records and the developing RDA standard.

* Experience working with PromptCat or similar provider of outsourced cataloging and processing.

* Familiarity with load tables, XML and other methods for downloading and transferring data.

Rank & Salary

The position will be at the rank of Assistant Librarian, part-time (30 hours per week). Annual salary range will be from $37,500 to $41,250, commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications.
