Teen Services Librarian - Novato

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Librarian II, the Teen Services Librarian will provide professional library services to teens and other age
groups, including reference, reader’s advisory, and outreach to the local middle and high schools to educate students and teachers
regarding the role of the Novato libraries and the teen services the branches provide. The Teen Services Librarian will serve as an integral
member of the Teen Librarians Committee responsible for helping develop and implement MCFL’s overarching vision and strategic goals
for teen programming.
In addition, the Teen Services Librarian will be responsible for the assisting with:
• Creating teen programs such as parent/teen Scrabble tournaments, game night, chess club, No TV Weeks, and
intralibrary tournaments;
• Increasing the local teen community involvement in the Novato branch programming efforts;
• Creating a TeenZine program;
• Designing and implementing MCFL’s annual teen summer reading program.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have completed advanced coursework related to programming and services for tweens and
young adults in a library setting and demonstrate previous experience with teen programming and/or community outreach efforts. The
ideal candidate will be skilled in communicating effectively and have the ability to adjust their style and content to address teens of varying
ages; assisting teens from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds; and engaging and motivating the youth community.
