Under the general direction of the Head Librarian, the Instruction/Reference Librarian will be responsible for providing instruction, outreach, and reference services to state agency health professionals. Instruction is provided once a month to CDPH staff in both Richmond and Sacramento; the librarian will be required to travel to Richmond and Sacramento. Special request instruction sessions may require travel to other state agency locations in California. Outreach efforts will include the production of monthly and quarterly electronic newsletters. The librarian will conduct public health-related literature searches for contract clientele utilizing databases such as PubMed, Agricola, and ERIC as well as using bibliographic management software such as EndNote. The librarian will also assist the Document Delivery Unit with day-to-day operations such as bibliographic verification, commercial document delivery ordering, and CDPH-licensed electronic journal access issues as needed. With the other Public Health Library staff, the librarian will share in the responsibility for providing library services to other clientele.

UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment, and to be active professionally. Professional contributions beyond the primary responsibilities, e.g., leadership in University and professional settings, publications, or other research and creative activity, are required for advancement in the Librarian series and for appointment at the Associate rank. The successful candidate will show evidence of or promise of such contributions.
