Minimum Qualifications:

1.     Possession of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Equivalency;  AND 

2.     Applicants must be enrolled in a college, university or vocational program in Fall 2017.

Desirable Qualifications: 

- Strong desire to work with youth ages 13-18 
- Recent high school graduates with limited or no prior work experience
- Interest in working in a public service setting
- Ability to learn and teach new skills to others; demonstrated leadership ability
- Ability to communicate effectively with Library patrons, co-workers and supervisors
- Ability to work productively as part of a team in a constantly-changing environment
- Experience in audio production, video production or maker/fabrication
- Experience with computer programming, game development or coding

Internship Description:

The duration of the internship will be twelve (12) months with a possible opportunity for an offer of extension. Interns will be scheduled to work 10-19 hours per week, and not more than 1,040 hours within a continuous 12-month period. Selected interns must be able to commit to the consecutive twelve (12) months session. Work schedules will vary depending on the assignment; may include weekends and evenings. Anticipated start date of the internship will be in May 2017. 

San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) is seeking enthusiastic, friendly and innovative individuals for an 12-month internship in The Mix at SFPL, a dynamic digital media center at San Francisco’s Main Library where Teens create, perform, learn, engage and share with peers, mentors, their communities and the world beyond. SFPL is accepting applications for three (3) part-time positions in Class 9912 Public Service Aide/Technical – College Intern.  The Mix at SFPL is located at the Main Library, 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.

Position Description
Selected interns will work with professional staff, adult mentors and volunteers to gain valuable career and educational skills alongside industry professionals and gain experience in media production (audio, video, music and art) and public library service to teens. Through this program, Interns will have the opportunity to gain essential work skills to support their career options. 

Under supervision, Interns will perform the following essential duties including but not limited to:
    - Help develop programs for teens; 
    - Receive training and mentoring from professionals;
    - Serve as mentors and leaders for younger teens;
    - Assist with outreach efforts to promote The Mix at SFPL to     
       organizations serving teens in the Tenderloin and throughout San Francisco;
    - Assist with maintenance and organization of equipment in The Mix at SFPL; 
    - Communicate with and greet teens who visit The Mix at SFPL; and
    - Assist with registration for programs.
