Please note that this is an as-needed, non-benefited assignment.
The individual appointed to this position will be limited to approximately 999 hours per fiscal year.

The Library is currently recruiting for a Library Technology Aide, As-Needed. The hours are part time (up to 19 hours per week) and will include night and weekend work. The Technology Aide provides assistance to the public with the use of library computers, electronic resources, and audio-visual equipment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under general supervision:
  • Monitors the public's use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library
  • Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer usage
  • Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism
  • Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper
  • Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed
  • Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patron's time usage
  • Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards
  • Performs system backups; prints and emails notices for the public
  • Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions
  • Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals
  • Assists library users in connecting to the public network with wireless and laptop computers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
  • One (1) year experience with computer and audio-visual equipment; and
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application
Licenses and/or Certificates:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Windows based operating systems and standard office software
  • Computer peripheral devices and audio-visual equipment
Ability to:
  • Learn library policies and procedures
  • Work independently and prioritize work assignments with minimal supervision
  • Troubleshoot routine technology problems, and recognize and report complex problems to the appropriate supervisor
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with others contacted in the course of work, including under stressful situations
  • Work effectively in groups in a team based environment and achieve common goals
  • Perform physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying library materials weighing up to 40 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, and walking up and down stairs
