Holy Names University is seeking a creative, experienced, and collaborative librarian for the position of University Librarian. The successful candidate will enjoy working closely with faculty to enhance the Library’s services, collections, event & study space to integrate all aspects of the Library into campus life.

The HNU Library holds a uniquely central position on campus.  In addition to acting as the gateway to research materials and the source for information literacy instruction, the Library plays the role of the campus living room; with collaborative and contemplative study spaces, event space for faculty colloquiums, poetry readings, concerts, receptions and an art exhibition space.  We are looking for a candidate who will build upon this foundation and find new mechanisms to further extend the Library’s role on and off campus. 

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, promotes, and executes objectives for strategic plans for library facilities, collections, services, workforce, and other resources
  • Recruits, develops and leads a library workforce aligned with the mission of the university
  • Ensures integration of the library’s information literacy instruction across the curriculum
  • Provides planning and oversight for the curation and selection of electronic and print collections
  • Manages the library’s budget; oversees general library expenditures under the direction of the Office of the Provost; develops strategic funding proposals; forecasts new and changing requirements
  • Develops strategic relationships and partnerships with faculty, students, and staff across the university community
  • Identifies emerging library technologies, integrates them as applicable into library services, and sunsets obsolete technologies
  • Plans, forecasts, and advocates for workforce requirements, equipment, technology, and collections
  • Working with the University Office of Advancement, identifies funding sources and develops proposals for funding opportunities to further the library’s vision
  • Collaborates with peers at the regional, state, and national level; represents the University at local, regional, and national meetings
  • Serves as the library’s primary liaison to University administration, academic departments, councils, and committees; serves ex-officio on Faculty Senate with voting rights
  • Ensures continuous assessment of all library services
  • Manages licenses, and ensures contract requirements are met by the library and by vendors
  • Represents HNU’s interests in Library Consortiums and with vendors
  • Supervises planning, scheduling and marketing of events sponsored by the Library
  • Participates in campus accreditation processes
Minimum Education Required:
Master’s in library or information science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association.

Minimum Experience Required:
Five years of progressively responsible library work, three of which are in an academic library.  Three years of supervisory experience.
