Basic Function

The library operates under a team-based structure and library faculty perform multiple roles. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Terminal degree in Library/Information Science or an advanced degree in a closely related subject area (including, but not limited to, archival studies, library education, informatics, museum studies); significant record of effective supervisory, administrative, and financial management experience in a higher education library setting with a strong service orientation; a sustained record of professional and scholarly activity to qualify for appointment at the level of Librarian with tenure; minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience in academic or research libraries, which includes minimum of three years lead work or direct supervision of others.

JOB SUMMARY


The position works closely with Serials and Acquisitions staff to receive, process and maintain library materials. The position assumes shifts at the Circulation Desk. Because this position at times works with minimal supervision it requires independent judgment in applying established guidelines to specific issues. The position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a multi-faceted and team workgroup environment. The nature of the tasks requires in-office attendance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


To assist with providing adequate staffing and coverage during the library's open hours, regular work hours during Law School instruction and recess periods are M-F, 8am-5pm. Alternate schedules may be approved as feasible.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


The Mabie Law Library is an integral part of the UC Davis School of Law, and provides services that support the teaching, research, and scholarship of its students and faculty. The Library’s collection and staff are housed in King Hall on the Davis campus. The Library has access to more than 10,000 databases which are provided through its library licenses, campus, and UC-wide license agreements.

Responsibilities:


• Provides extensive legal research assistance to law students, faculty and other patrons 
• Serves as library liaison to faculty members and provides complex legal research assistance in support of faculty scholarship and teaching.
• Provides legal research instruction to students in both the 1L Legal Research & Writing and 2L/3L elective Advanced Legal Research classes.
• Provides topical resource and research presentations to law school classes, clinic students, RA's, externs, Journal editors, etc. as needed.
• Assists with development and adaptation of new technologies and systems relevant to research services;
• Participates in library’s marketing and communications efforts;
• Actively participates in student outreach programs;
• Actively participates in developing and implementing law practice technology programs for students;
