DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The library operates under a team-based structure and library faculty perform multiple roles. These roles include public services, user instruction (online and in-person), access and discovery of materials, and coordination of operational areas. Primary responsibility for this position is for the library's reference and information competency program. The librarian will lead colleagues in designing and executing an innovative library instruction program that supports the College's curriculum and introduces innovative methods to meet the challenges of the misinformation age. The assignment may include day and evenings with occasional travel to Extended Education and Dual Enrollment sites in the District.

CLASSIFICATION:


Placement on the current 195 Day Full-time Faculty Salary Schedule is commensurate with previous education and experience.

Full-time non-instructional faculty are contracted to work 195 days per fiscal year including 11 days of professional growth and development. 

START DATE: 


This position is anticipated to start the beginning of the Spring 2022 semester.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability


Essential Functions:


  • Collaborate with discipline faculty to develop innovative and user-centered information literacy instructional programs that support curriculum
  • Teach course-integrated information literacy lessons (online and face-to-face)
  • Develop self-paced online information literacy lessons
  • Coordinate circulation, reference, instruction, and other library services
  • Provide reference and research support in-person, chat, text, phone, email, and video conferencing
  • Coordinate access and discovery of print and electronic library materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on outreach efforts at all campuses
  • Participate in collection development and management
  • Actively participate in campus service
  • Fulfill all obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement
  • Knowledge of:
  • face-to-face and online active learning strategies (and other teaching methods)
  • library service platforms (Alma/Primo preferred)
  • technology used for teaching and learning
  • library organization schemes and practices
  • technology used for reference and research
  • Ability to:
  • effectively communicate in-person, in writing, and online
  • exercise initiative and creativity to engage faculty and students across the District
  • work creatively and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment
  • leverage technology to teach and promote library services

Experience/Education


Education Required:


Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA Accredited Program, or equivalent foreign degree, in library/information science

OR

Master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in a discipline reasonably related to library/information science and possession of a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in library/information science.

Experience Required:


  • Demonstrated experience utilizing online information resources and services
  • Demonstrated experience of instruction in a library setting
  • Other Required or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an academic library setting
  • Experience developing online instruction
  • Knowledge of open educational resources
