Definition
With general supervision:
- Assist students and staff with library use
- Perform library tasks using current technology
- Do related work as required Examples of Duties
- Receive students, staff and visitors
- Answer telephone calls, schedule groups and classes
- Operate automated library system
- Manage the circulation system and circulation desk
- Process and input library materials
- Prepare inventory reports, library bills, bibliographies
- Update the patron database
- Monitor system performance; consult system vendors as needed
- Instruct and assist students/teachers in the use of catalogues, indexes, references and guides using hard copy and current technology
- Participate in evaluating and ordering of library materials, new books, supplies, maintaining inventory, developing and tracking the annual budget and coordinating expenditures with the site secretary and the district office
- Recruit, train and supervise student aides and parent volunteers
- Coordinate the work flow of shelving and repairing books and magazines, collecting money for lost materials, organizing and maintaining library files, correspondence, invoices, purchase orders, attendance records and creating and promoting library displays
- Inventory at year end to determine replacements, losses
- Enforce district policy for ethical and legal use of print, video, audio materials and software
Desirable Qualifications Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma
- Two year college degree or two years of college course work; current library operation and technology skills
Knowledge of:
- Automated library systems
- Library terminology and reference tools Standard media center practices and techniques Current technology used in the library
- District Disaster Preparedness Plans
- Ability to:
- Effectively function within a school library atmosphere
- Assume responsibility and exercise independent judgment
- Understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies
- Communicate well verbally and in writing; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Simultaneously handle multiple projects or processes
- Analyze situations and adopt a course of action; solve many problems independently without supervision
