RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES


Provides leadership in promoting excellence and accountability in Library and Learning Resources through assessment and evaluation. Develops, coordinates, and leads assessment of library services, collections, and assessment to guide data-informed planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement; works closely with center leadership to coordinate assessment activity where possible;

In collaboration with library and center leadership, leads the integration of operationally distinct but related library and academic success services to deliver high impact academic and research support to students;

Supervises, evaluates, and oversees the professional development of the professional and support staff in the WMC and LRC academic success centers;

Provides leadership and vision for the library technologies, including coordination of integrated web services for the library and the centers and support for library systems and digital architectures; oversees the Digital Initiatives and Library Technologies unit of the library; supervises, evaluates, and supports professional and support staff assigned to the unit;

In collaboration with library and center leadership, contributes to GI2025 and other student success initiatives, notably by supporting retention and success in core academic courses;

Participates in CSUCI efforts to engage minoritized and/or underrepresented communities and perform all position tasks with an equity lens with the goal of achieving more equitable outcomes for students;

Assists the Dean and library leadership in the development of the library's budget; assist academic success center leadership in the development of tutoring center budgets;

Serve as project manager for various library projects as assigned by the Dean;

Gathers and compiles data for reports for the Dean and develops and maintains reporting systems to generate data necessary for required reporting, and coordinate reporting to external agencies, such as Association of College and Research Libraries, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and CSU System Reports. Uses this data to identify areas of service improvement and opportunities for growth of collections and services to meet university demand.

Represents the Library and Learning Resources unit in contacts and at meetings and events both on- and off-campus as needed.

Assumes responsibility for the library in the Dean’s absence; and other responsibilities and initiatives as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Terminal degree in Library/Information Science or an advanced degree in a closely related subject area (including, but not limited to, archival studies, library education, informatics, museum studies); significant record of effective supervisory, administrative, and financial management experience in a higher education library setting with a strong service orientation; a sustained record of professional and scholarly activity to qualify for appointment at the level of Librarian with tenure; minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience in academic or research libraries, which includes minimum of three years lead work or direct supervision of others.

Sound grasp of current issues and trends in academic libraries and learning commons, including digital scholarship, information literacy, emerging technologies for teaching and learning, collection development and management, high impact tutoring, peer education, and supplemental instruction practices, and assessment of learning and services for continuous improvement. Understanding of and commitment to an integrated Learning Commons model that offers coordinated, unified, and cohesive learning support services for student academic success.

Demonstrated interest and skill in collaborating with individuals and groups within and beyond the library, across the campus, and in the broader regional and library professional communities; strong organizational skills; record of innovative outreach to faculty and academic program leaders on campus; ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both independently and as a team leader and member. Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work under pressure with competing demands; ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a leader and senior administrator to set and accomplish strategic goals and priorities and to cultivate a collegial environment. Experience managing academic personnel and demonstrated collaborative team-building skills, including the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor others, and to welcome and support diverse ideas, cultures, and experiences. Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace, and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities. A service orientation, superior communication skills, and a collegial leadership style; Proven ability to work with professional integrity and a commitment to build strong relationships that respect diversity of identity, background, and perspectives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 


Teaching experience in a higher education setting; experience working in or leading peer educator-driven academic success centers; proven ability to support faculty research in a research-practitioner environment; experience in leading successful results-oriented planning initiatives. Demonstrated team-building and mentoring experience; proven abilities to effectively manage organizational change for improving efficiencies and services; ability to cultivate an organizational climate based upon respect, service, open communication and teamwork. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who demonstrate a commitment to recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and actively engaging with underrepresented and underserved populations both on campus and in the broader community.
