Job Summary


Under the direction of the Dean of Liberal Arts & Student Success, takes a leadership role and participates in technical library duties related to the processing, circulation, organization, and discovery of library materials, including a lead role in administration of the library services platform (LSP) software; trains and directs others in performing technical and other library functions; provides reference and other public services to students, faculty, staff and the general public; assists in the supervision of public library areas and enforces library and college policies for behavior and conduct.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


Library Services Platform (LSP) Lead


  • Performs leadership role in the administration of the LSP software (Alma/Primo VE)
  • Coordinates and performs patron data uploads from the student management system into the LSP
  • Administers upgrades and updates of the LSP in coordination with the vendor and communicates changes to library staff
  • Configures LSP software functionality in a manner that supports library services and policies
  • Builds and designs data queries and statistical reports as required
  • Trains library staff, including classified staff, faculty, and student employees, on the functionality of the LSP
  • Coordinates access to materials in the library’s online collections through the LSP
  • Resolves library-related technology issues, consulting with Technology Services staff and/or outside vendors as appropriate to find and implement solutions

Cataloging Lead


  • Perform copy and original cataloging for library materials in a variety of formats including print, media, electronic, and digital, using AACR2R, RDA, and other applicable library standards
  • Classifies library materials in a variety of formats using the Dewey Decimal System and other classification systems
  • Performs complex name and subject authority file work to meet Library of Congress, OCLC, and library quality standards, including the creation and maintenance of local subject headings using Library of Congress Subject Heading guidelines
  • Coordinates and/or assists in managing collection space, materials deselection processes, shifting, shelf maintenance and signage, as well as collection inventories
  • Coordinates the processing and repair of incoming and outgoing materials in all physical formats, including the training of student employees
  • Monitor inventory levels of office and materials processing supplies; order, receive, and maintain appropriate levels of inventory.

Public Services, Reference & Circulation


  • Provide direct support to students, faculty, and staff in the discovery and use of physical and online library materials including the use of research tools such as the library discovery system, databases from a variety of vendors, and other resources as appropriate
  • Provides technical support for questions regarding library computers, software, and equipment such as the microfilm reader, photocopier, scanner, and media players
  • Participates in the development and implementation of library circulation policies
  • Provides circulation assistance to students, faculty, and staff as needed including checking in/out library materials
  • Effectively communicates with students, faculty, and staff regarding library services, policies, procedures, and collections
  • Trains and/or assists with training of library staff and student employees on use of the LSP for circulation
  • Conducts library tours as needed, participates in library outreach events, and creates informational brochures, fliers, signs and displays to promote library materials/services and college events
  • Coordinates and/or assists in maintaining information on student obligations and coordinates placement of obligations on student records with the Business Office
  • Coordinates and/or assists in establishing processes for and overseeing the collection, recording, and deposit of money
  • Supervises public areas of the library and enforces library and college policies for behavior and conduct, resolves occasional difficult and sensitive situations, and escalates problems to the Faculty Librarian or appropriate administrator as needed

Other


  • Coordinates and/or assists with the implementation and maintenance of library equipment and technology
  • Oversees and/or assists in the hiring, training, and supervision of library student employees
  • Assists in compiling a variety of statistical information necessary to evaluate library services and for college, state, and federal reporting
  • Assists in the preparation and management of library budgets and related expenditures, including placing orders, receiving materials and processing paperwork for payment
  • Attend a variety of meetings as assigned
  • Performs special projects and related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


Graduation from high school with a diploma or equivalent
AND a library technology certificate or equivalent library training and experience
AND a minimum of two years of increasingly responsible library experience
 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related discipline preferred.
  • Experience with Alma/Primo VE (LSP), OCLC cataloging software, and Banner preferred.

  • Solving complex cataloging issues regarding serials, unusual formats, unique local history materials, or original record creation
  • Researching and advising on library purchasing, equipment maintenance and replacement, and vendor selection

  • Difficult situations regarding inappropriate conduct in the library
  • Difficult situations regarding billing or library user accounts
  • Complex research requests (not involving the Mt. Shasta Collection)
  • Requests from students and other library users for exceptions to established library policies and procedures

  • Requests for classroom instruction 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS


Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license
