Summary
Sacramento County Public Law Library, a dynamic, forward-thinking organization, is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative librarian to lead our Acquisitions and Collection Development work.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Support Services (ADSS), the Technical Services Librarian works collaboratively with other library staff members to provide a variety of Technical Services functions, including acquisitions, serials management and cataloging. The Technical Services Librarian position requires specialized knowledge and expertise focusing on the purchase and receipt of library materials, collection development and maintenance practices, vendor negotiation, as well as knowledge of the organization, classification and technical processing of all library materials and information management of library technology. The Technical Services Librarian also works routine shifts at the Library’s Reference Desk and the AskNow virtual reference service.
Job Duties
Manages the acquisition of library resources, including ordering, invoicing and receiving, claims and payments
Prepares and monitors the materials budget in collaboration with key staff
Sets and improves acquistions workflows and processes
Maintains accurate budget records, monitors expenditures, performs year-end acquisitions functions
Routine work at the Library's reference desk and Asknow virtual reference service
Collaborates with cataloger to integrate acquisitions processes with cataloging workflows
Develops and provides law library basics classes
Assists in developing and updating legal research guides
Reviews claims and revises prediction patterns
Develops a congenial working relationship with vendors
Assists Executive Director in negotiating print and electronic materials contracts
Effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and analytic skills with strong attention to detail and ability to follow through
Strong technology proficiency combined with an ability to work on a team to migrate the library's integrated software database to a new vendor's system
Ability to work independently, as well as on teams
Excellent customer service and decision-making skills
Ability to work with a diverse user population

Experience
Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS, MLS, MSLS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution required.
Prior experience and/ or training in Technical Services functions desirable
Prior experience and/ or training on Integrated Library Systems databases a plus
Legal Reference and/ or Law Library experience a plus
