JOB DESCRIPTION
With strategic leadership, participate in the National University (NU) initiatives and programs focusing on student success and retention. Manage the development of library support for retention and ‘first-year’ initiatives. Serve as Library liaison for the College of Letters and Sciences (COLS). Collaborate with faculty research, scholarship and program development. Facilitate library instruction, information and literacy assessment for graduate and undergraduate students both online and in-person. Contribute in the library collection development and engage with users to understand information needs and service expectations. Provide discipline-specific research consultations, as required. Corroborate on library team initiatives such as library base for new students and students at risk.
Essential Functions
Manages the development for library sustenance to students at risk and ‘first-year’ initiatives.
Develops library instruction plans to enhance understanding of high impact best practices for online instruction and information literacy pedagogy differentiated for students at risk.
Provides on-line and in-person instruction for graduate and undergraduate education programs.
Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in tutorial scripts, storyboards and other instructional development resources.
Designs course guides to supplement library instruction with a focus on signature assignments with library research.
Serves as Library Liaison for COLS. Contributes in school committees, meetings, faculty proposals and training on library plans, resources and services.
Sustains faculty research and program development in library collections to support the teaching, learning and researching needs of students and faculty.
Collaborates with library team on initiatives such as guide review, outreach, tutorials, events and workshops as necessary.
Provides reference services such as staffing the Library Help Desk and answering reference questions (Ask Us, RefDesk, phone, text and through email).
Must be able to work a varied work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Hire, train and develop up to 5 staff team members.
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Systems or related field, required; and, four (4) years’ progressively responsible leadership experience in a Library, preferable within a higher education environment; to include:
Four (4) years’ experience answering reference questions on-line and in-person while collaborating with individual faculty members on information literacy outcomes and instruction; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to conduct in-depth reference interviews and familiarity with print and electronic reference tools with thorough writing skills.
Working knowledge of copyright, citation styles and management systems in a networked environment.
Advanced us of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and design technologies such as Camtasia/Captivate, course management systems and related emerging technologies.
Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, academic electronic resources, Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and Internet scholarly communication.
Ability to create student-focused instructional materials and utilize web-design tools to facilitate instructional goals including evaluating the success of instruction, learning and programs.
Ability to use a variety of strategies encouraging retention while successfully challenging diverse student populations with a wide variance in learning styles and information-seeking skills and different levels of technological competencies.
Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
Ability to drive towards achieving measurable and challenging goals to support organizational success.
Demonstrates the ability to focus on achieving results consistent with the organization’s objectives.

Physical Demands/Environment
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal. The work is performed in an office environment.
Travel
Must be able to travel to all campus site locations.
