LIBRARIAN
Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week
$25.07-$31.37 per hour

Summary Description:
Under general supervision, performs professional library
functions involved in assisting library patrons with their informational needs;
plan and implement library programs; participate in the development of the
library collection; and provide assistance, education and information to the
public regarding library use and services.
Essential Job Duties:
The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not
perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed
here.
- Answer reference questions and reader=s advisory questions; assists or instructs in the use of the library resources.
- Evaluate and select library materials; recommend and purchase materials for collection development; remove obsolete, non-relevant and worn books from library collection.
- Interpret and communicate library policies and programs to staff, patrons and community groups.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and services.
- Participate in the administration of a variety of library programs including volunteer and summer youth; develop and coordinate assigned library programs.
- Recommend additions to collection and services appropriate to the needs of the community.
- Work with automated systems; perform searches of databases.
- Conduct school class visits and other community outreach programs.
- Assist with budget recommendations for collection development.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Knowledge of:
- Library policies, procedures and functions.
- Office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
- Principles of professional and technical library work including methods, practices and techniques of library classification, cataloging and referencing.
- Computerized cataloging, bibliographical, acquisition and
circulation system databases.
- Skill and Ability to:
- Operate computerized cataloging, bibliographical, acquisition and circulation data systems.
- Assist library patrons in response to reference and directional library questions.
- Perform professional and technical library tasks.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Training and Experience:
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in library science or related field is required.
- Two years of increasingly professional and technical library experience is highly desirable.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and live-scan fingerprinting clearance.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
- Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
- Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
- Requires the ability to stand for long periods.
- Library environment; work closely with the public; work with computer and office equipment.
- May be required to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
- May be required to attend periodic evening meetings and/or to travel within and out of City boundaries to attend meetings
- May be required to work evenings or weekends.
- Requires the ability to lift, push, and/or pull items which do not exceed 25 pounds.
