Job Description:
DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Library Manager, the
part-time Librarian is responsible for performing professional librarian
functions in the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) Science
and Law Libraries serving scientists and engineers, and staff attorneys
respectively, working in all of the CalEPA boards and departments. The
incumbent will manage the daily operations of the Law Library including
managing vendor agreements, processing new materials to update the law library
collection, and provide research support to staff attorneys when requested. In
the Science Library, the incumbent will perform librarian functions including
support of collection development and maintenance, acquisitions, research,
online services, training classes and demonstrations, document retrieval,
inter-library loan services, and responding to staff inquiries.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to provide good customer service
- Knowledge of collection development and maintenance
- Knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures
- Experience in legal and scientific library environments is helpful
- Knowledge of bibliographic searching using Scopus
- Excellent computer skills in a variety of applications including Excel, MS Word, and the Internet
- Knowledge of State purchasing, inventory and accounting procedures is desirable
- Experience in developing and leading training classes and giving presentations
