Job Description / Essential Elements
- Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) School has an opening for a librarian. This position requires traditional librarian duties with some teaching duties. The librarian maintains a large collection of books, periodicals, reference, and media materials. In addition, the librarian teaches preschool through 4th grade students once a week. Topics include literature, library research skills, and academic research. All students use the library with the librarian’s assistance, for circulation, research, and project/computer time. The librarian assists with many special academic projects.
- The candidate we seek is dynamic, energetic, engaging, compassionate, and on fire about literacy and education. We are conducting a search for a librarian who will support our academic program and develop the OLA library into a state-of-the-art media center.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain the collection, including ordering and cataloging new books, repairing old books, shelving, checking in and out for circulation, conducting inventory periodically.
- Prepare and conduct 13 library classes a week (3 preschool, 2 kindergarten and 2 each 1st-4th grades).
- Assist with research, and media-usage in the library.
- Organize and conduct two Scholastic Book Fairs a year.
- Conduct Reading Literature Circles.
- Prepare and teach an elective course two hours a week.
- Organize Summer Reading Program for Students.
- Organize the Academic Talent Search Test for Sac State Summer Program
- Participate in committees, supervision duty, meetings, and professional development.
- Embody and promote the mission and vision of Our Lady of the Assumption School
- Collaborate well and foster a team atmosphere of professionalism and high standards for student achievement.
- Effectively uses technology as an instructional tool to improve student achievement and effectiveness
- Teach and enforce school-wide culture and expectations
- Complete additional administrative, operational, and professional responsibilities and duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to the OLA School mission
- Bachelor's degree and current teaching credential or library services credential strongly preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organization
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and personal responsibility
- Professional appearance and dress
