Library Technician


THE POSITION
The Rancho Cucamonga Library is seeking a highly motivated, creative, team-oriented professional
who represents the tenets of Team RC to work as a Library Technician – Public Services. Under
general supervision, the Library Technician performs library work in support of the Technology,
Information, and Children’s Services functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment
to excellent customer service, display an outstanding work ethic, attitude and sense of teamwork,
and show flexibility and interest in adapting to the evolving world of libraries.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Advise and assist library patrons in locating and choosing appropriate materials and in using various reference sources, library resources and research methodologies;
  • Assist staff and patrons with technology-related questions and problems, working with other City staff and vendors as needed to resolve issues;
  • Update software on computers and portable devices;
  • Coordinate with staff on the maintenance, promotion, organization of the Virtual Library including library website, databases, eBooks and social media;
  • Teach computer and technology classes;
  • Support bookmobile services including occasionally driving the vehicle;
  • Plan, organize and present quality programs such as bookclubs or storytimes for various ages;
  • Special and cultural events; conduct tours; create library displays;
  • Participate in outreach;
  • Collection development and cataloging;
  • Become passport agent and assist with passport issuance.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Videography and multi-media production skills are highly desirable.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of library training, coursework or experience, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities is required.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of library service including Internet searching and
  • website evaluation, online databases, Horizon, Windows, Microsoft Office and other standard business software is desirable.
  •  Strong commitment to public services;
  • Ability to organize work and work independently;
  • Ability to work well in teams as well as lead teams;
  • Strong ability to communicate both orally and in writing with coworkers, partners, and the public to promote library programs and meet patron needs.

  • Applications must be complete and demonstrate that the minimum qualifications are met. All statements made on the application are subject to investigation and verification. Resumes may be attached to completed application form as supplemental information, but will not be accepted in lieu of an official application form. Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates who best match the needs of the City will be invited to compete further in the examination process. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will remain candidates until a final offer is accepted by the candidate who most closely meets the requirements of the City. The City may conclude that none of the candidates, even those who meet the minimum qualifications, are appropriate for the position.


Successful candidates shall be required to:
  • Complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible for employment in the United States of America; and Pass a pre-employment medical exam, including a drug/alcohol screening; and Provide proof of a valid California driver’s license and be insurable; and Pass a reference and background verification. References will not be contacted until a mutual interest has been established.
