Salary: $24.82 - $33.26 Hourly


The Sacramento Public Library (SPL) is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and innovative librarian to serve as the Youth Services Selector. The successful candidate possesses a passion for developing collections for children and teens, along with exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to public service.


The person in this position has responsibility for selecting children and teen materials in all formats for SPL. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Review, evaluate and recommend library material/digital content for acquisition replacement or to be deaccessioned
  • Collaborate with public services staff to assess collection needs
  • Meet with representatives of publishers and other vendors, evaluate services offered and supplied to the library
  • Assign materials to the Central Library and branches
  • Assemble recommended lists of titles for replacement or enrichment
  • Contribute reviews and bibliographies for social media and the web site
  • Maintain current awareness of the publishing industry
  • Serve on collection-related committees


Ideal Candidate:
  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • A minimum of two years of experience with selection of materials for children and teens
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Skill in time management; organizational skills
  • A willingness and ability to travel to branches on a regular basis
