Salary:

Starting salary is from $5,804.58 to $8,036.09 Monthly depending upon education and experience. Fringe benefits, which are subject to change pursuant to negotiations under Section 3500 of the California Government Code, are presently provided and include family and domestic partner medical and dental, two-party vision plan, and employee life insurance.

Selection Process:
 
All completed applications and application materials will be screened to ensure that the minimum requirements stated in the job announcement are met. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and possess the highest degree of desired job-related qualifications will be invited to the college for an interview at their own expense. The College President will make the final recommendation to the Governing Board of Glendale Community College.

This position is offered contingent upon funding. The district reserves the right to extend, withdraw, and/or reopen this position at any time.

Description:
 
This is a full-time, one-year contract faculty position reporting to the Dean, Library and Learning Support Services.  Full-time library faculty are expected to participate in a variety of areas, including information competency instruction, reference service, collection development, and providing web-based services for distance learners. This position will primarily focus on reference and instructional services, and will oversee the Integrated Library System.
  
This is a 10-month academic year position.
 
Full-time library faculty work 35 hours per week, and assignments may include evening and weekend hours and/or work at other GCC locations in addition to the main campus. Participation in professional activities, weekly faculty meetings, monthly campus meetings, evaluation activities, and curriculum development is required.
  
The GCC Library is a fast-paced, student-centered, teaching library. The successful candidate will be able to lead the library in the area of systems and technical services and work collaboratively in a team environment and have skills in instruction, reference, information technology, electronic resources, collection development and technical services.
 
Examples of Duties:

Provides leadership in the management, administration, and utilization of the library's integrated library system.

Serves as liaison to library vendors as related to technical services' functions.

Develops research guides, video tutorials, bibliographies, and other instructional materials which support student and curricular needs.

Collaborates in the development and implementation of online library instruction for distance education students.

Works collaboratively in the department and across the campus.

Plans, develops, and teaches library classes and orientations.

Works with faculty to integrate information competency skills and library resources into the college curriculum.

Provides online and face-to-face library instruction services.

Collaborates with faculty in assigned divisions to increase students' knowledge of library resources and services.

Participates in collection development.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution OR the equivalent together with course work and/or experience with Library information technologies and Internet research.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues with integrated library systems
 
Experience managing integrated library systems
 
Knowledge of current and emerging library principles, practices, and technologies
 
Experience teaching and providing reference services in an academic library
 
Knowledge of learning management systems and content management systems
 
Knowledge of electronic information resources
