TITLE: Librarian I (as needed, part-time hourly)
SALARY: $29.82 - $36.94 Hourly

THE POSITION
Performs a variety of professional librarian duties
including reference, reader's advisory, and collection development.
MAJOR DUTIES
Assists patrons at the reference and information desks in
using library materials and services; elicits, interprets, and answers requests
at the desk and by telephone; instructs and assists patrons in using the
on-line catalog and the Dewey decimal system and in making effective use of the
library's collection; directs patrons to directories, indexes, and other
reference tools and to other areas of the library; provides reader's advisory.
Assists in researching professional journals and in
evaluating, selecting, and acquiring materials for the circulating collection
and CD-ROM and on-line services; assists in weeding the collection.
Compiles bibliographies on specific topics; maintains files
of materials and answers to patron's questions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirement: Master's degree in Library Science.
Note: A Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) is required
for this position. The Office of Human Resources will allow non-MLS graduates
to apply based on the following criteria:
Candidate currently enrolled in an accredited graduate
program in Library Information Science, and the expected graduation date is
June 2015; AND
When a candidate has been selected and offered a position,
he/she must show proof of graduation date with a MLS in or prior to June 2015.

Communicate clearly and effectively; follow written and oral
instructions.
Locating library materials; interpreting patrons' needs;
assisting patrons in answering reference questions; evaluating and selecting
