Position Description:
The Associate Dean reports directly to the Law
School Dean and serves as a member of the Dean's senior management team. The position is a faculty appointment with
full voting rights. The Associate Dean
oversees all aspects of the Law Library's operation and administration,
including strategic planning and collection development; budgeting; hiring,
training, and supervising library staff; acquisition management; technology
services; and all related aspects of library support for faculty and
students. The position also supervises
the Law School's Information Technology and Educational Technology
departments. The Library's staff
consists of seven full-time librarian positions and seven support staff
positions. Four of the research
librarians teach stand-alone, for-credit research courses, and these librarians
and two others hold both JD and MLS (or equivalent) degrees.
Required:
The successful candidate will have:
a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and an MLS
(or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
a substantial and consistent record of innovation,
leadership, management, and strategic vision, preferably within an academic law
library setting.
The successful candidate must also:
Display a strong commitment to the Law School's
institutional mission, objectives, and needs, as well as a strong commitment to
faculty and student research and scholarship and to serving a diverse and
vibrant user community.
Support the incorporation of educational technology
into the Law Library's teaching and training activities.
Be proficient with technology relevant to the
Library's mission and be familiar with (or willing to learn) the overall
technological requirements of a law school serving 650 students.
Develop and promote innovative strategies for
acquisition and library services, including strategies that take advantage of
technology.
Build successful and strong relationships with the
Law School's faculty, students, and staff.
Encourage and promote teamwork and communication
with both internal and external constituencies, emphasizing flexibility and
collaboration.
Demonstrate a commitment to involving staff in
addressing problems and solutions, and be able to foster a sense of investment
and ownership in the Library's mission and challenges.
Value professional development and facilitate and
encourage the Law Library's staff's continued professional development.
