The Sonoma County Library is seeking a customer service oriented individual with solid communication, team building, and problem
solving skills to serve as its eResources & Discovery Librarian. This position is located at the Central Library in downtown Santa Rosa, in the heart of Wine Country, with the Redwoods and Pacific Ocean only minutes away.

THE POSITION
  • Under general direction of the Information Technology department Manager, leads the Library’s effort to enhance its virtual spaces,
  • working closely with library staff to develop and expand the Library’s online presence and services. Collaborates in the planning,
  • implementation, and monitoring of digital projects to enhance online user experience. This librarian will lead digital projects,
  • coordinate our social media presence, and oversee our online communications with the public. This position also oversees the
  • Library’s electronic resources, services, and infrastructure, including hardware and applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution; plus three years experiences as a professional librarian, two of which were directly in an area of information technology, library instruction and/or Web development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and innovation in implementing emerging information technology.


TYPICAL TASKS include but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the chairperson for the Digital Branch team
  • Develops high-level structures for content areas; plans, develops, tests, and supports new features and content areas,
  • systematically checks existing content on a regular basis and updates as needed
  • Works with vendors to negotiate contracts and licensing agreements
  • Actively participates in library committees and work groups
  • Serves as a library representative on community based projects
  • Maintains a leadership role with the Library’s online initiatives
  • Creates custom scripts and programs using Java, Perl, PHP, Python or other Languages
  • Trains staff to author and maintain content on the Library’s Website
  • Maintains current awareness in Web and digital content technologies

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Current Web standards, ADA requirements, responsive design, and mobile design practices
  • Library and information science principles and current developments
  • Developing web applications with one or more of the following programming languages: Java, PHP, Ruby, Perl or Python
  • SQL and relational databases



ABILITY TO:
  • Learn and respond quickly to constant changes in technology
  • Work creatively, cooperatively, and effectively as a team member and independently
  • Administer a midsize website using a Content Management System, preferably Drupal
  • Provide independent decision making and trend analysis in areas of responsibility
  • Work with XHTML, HTML, CSS and various software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite and other text and imaging
  • editing software
  • Create custom scripts and programs using a variety of scripting languages
  • Manage equipment with Linux operating systems
  • Manage relational databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Systematically check existing content on a regular basis and provide updates as needed; develop and document processes
