LIBRARY ASSISTANT II

Position: ACQUISITIONS/CIRCULATION ASSISTANT 

Salary: $16.38 - $20.99/HR 

Appointment Description: 100% Fixed; Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm 
Overtime Eligible: (FLSA)Non-Exempt 


Job Summary: 
  • Under supervision of the Acquisitions/Circulation department head, responsible for several functions including working daily shifts at the Circulation desk; checking in and processing bound and unbound print serials; preparing monographs to be bound; processing books recently bound; verifying and approving invoices for book materials; and inputting information on records in the Millennium online library catalog. Assist with Faculty inventory and other duties as assigned. 


Physical Demands:
  • Position requires heavy lifting library materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Physical ability to lift, reach and be able to move books from shelves, book trucks, and desks as well as heavier boxes of materials from floor to table or book trucks. 


Work Environment:
  • Work occasional alternate schedule when backup coverage is needed at the Staff Circulation desk on Tues (8am-5pm), Wed-Fri (7:30am-5:30pm), and Saturday (12 noon-5pm).


Background Check Required:
  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks. No 


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience using interpersonal, communication and customer service skills to assist patrons in a library or busy customer environment, and deliver library services in person, by phone and via email.
  • Experience using organizational and time management skills to take direction, follow oral and written procedures, handle several task assignments complete processes and maintain accurate records with attention to numbers and details and to meet deadlines.
  • Computer skills using keyboard and computer screen to check items in and out.
  • Skills to handle books of considerable weight, applying labels and bar codes using special printing equipment, label cutters, etc.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify situations or problems that require referral to department head or other staff. 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of library functions and procedures.
  • Experience using the Innovative Interfaces, Millennium online library system, particularly the circulation, serials and acquisitions modules.
  • Team building skills to work as part of a team.
