Job Purpose
The Social Sciences and Ethnic Studies Team Librarian is responsible for liaison and subject specialist services, information literacy instruction, research and reference services, selecting information resources, and scholarly communication services specifically related to Social Science and Ethnic Studies fields. This position reports to the Social Sciences Team Leader, within the Research, Teaching, and Learning Services (RTLS) division of the Claremont Colleges Library.
Essential Functions
Campus Liaison and Subject Specialist Services
-Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines, such as Political Science, U.S. Ethnic Studies disciplines and programs, and Africana Studies.
-Engages actively with the campus liaison program, assuming a liaison role to one of the colleges.
Information Literacy (IL) Instruction Services
-Works to better understand Social Sciences and Ethnic Studies’ programs and curricula and to appropriately integrate IL instruction within assigned subjects.
-Provides IL instruction and assignment design consultations at a variety of levels, as well as drop-in workshops in the “(Love Your) Library” workshop series.
Research & Reference Services
-Provides virtual and in-person research and reference consultation, with an emphasis on specialized services, to faculty and students in the Social Sciences and Ethnic Studies.
Information Resources
-Selects, develops, and manages electronic and print information resources in the Social Sciences and Ethnic Studies by assessing, acquiring, preserving, and de-selecting collections and other information resources that reflect the short and long term research, teaching, and research needs of the Claremont Colleges’ faculty and students.
Service & Professional Engagement
-Participates in library-wide planning and projects through service on teams, committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
-Actively participates in networking and professional development through national/regional/local professional organizations via office-holding, presentations, and publications.
Education
Required Education Summary
MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a closely related field.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree and/or research experience in a Social Science or Ethnic Studies field.

Three years’ professional experience working in public services in an academic library.

Work Schedule
The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
