Sacramento- California State Prison- Library Technical Assistant (Safety)

All applicants, regardless of the type of eligibility, must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the classification. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Library Technical Assistant assists the Senior Librarian in the overall planning, organization, and direction of the libraries for the general population at California State Prison-Sacramento. The Library Technical Assistant performs physical upkeep of library material, book circulation, book acquisition, catalog classification, and book inventory. The Library Technical Assistant has responsibility for supervising the conduct of the inmates while in the library and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergency.Provides general library services to inmates, provides reference services, directs inmate legal searches, collects and forwards to Senior Librarian inter-library loan requests for specialized material not available at facility, provides instruction in the use of the library and encourages inmates to use the library, maintains an environment conducive to study and research.Supervises the inmate workers assigned to the library, supervises inmate patrons of the library, prepares and maintains inmate worker records, inmate patron records, and custody records.Deliver the services of established procedures, documents for the Senior Librarian the effectiveness of the procedures, the librarys compliance with court-ordered policies, procedures, and inmates access to the courts.Assists in the selection of books, periodicals, and other publications, submits purchase requests to the Senior Librarian, maintains book collections, classifies and catalogs books and other materials.Performs custody duties as required by proper authorities: maintains order, discipline, helps to prevent escapes, helps insure against inmates injuring themselves, others, and property, keeps work areas safe and secure, inspects both the library and the area of supervision daily for contraband. Under declared emergency, performs custody duties and other job functions necessary for facility operation as directed by proper authorities.
