Job Description:

The Electronic Resources Librarian, under the general direction of the Director of Library Services, provides cataloging and acquisitions management, and participates on a team responsible for research and reference services.

The Librarian will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant University. The incumbent will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of Alliant University’s Mission and Vision.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. In collaboration with the University Librarian, maintain the library’s A-to-Z list of online journals, configure and maintain the library link resolver, and troubleshoot issues with accessing online book and journal content as they arise.  The ERL will also assist with online database selection, configuration and maintenance. The ERL, in collaboration with the Digital Repository Librarian, will also play an integral role in the selection, configuration and maintenance of the library’s digital repository.  Finally, the ERL will take on the process of receiving, importing and processing electronic invoices for Alliant library’s journal subscriptions.
  2. Research and Reference Services:  Work with a multi-campus team in ongoing development of reference services for Alliant’s patrons, utilizing technologies such as Web 2.0 interfaces and social networking sites.  Remain current with emerging technologies and their application to library services.  Work with the Library Systems Manager to effectively integrate new initiatives with the current integrated library system.  Provide in-person reference and research assistance as needed.
  3. Dissertation Clearance: Perform final format clearance of completed dissertations. Oversee transmission of dissertation manuscripts to print and online platforms.
  4. Other:  Manage or participate in special projects as needed, both locally and with system-wide Library colleagues.  As assigned, direct and supervise the work of Library Assistants and Student Assistants.

Requirements:

Education:  Master of Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited school

Experience:  
  1. Previous experience in an academic library
  2. Working knowledge of descriptive cataloging standards, including AACR2 and Library of Congress classification and subject headings. Familiarity with APA writing style.
  3. Familiarity with library automation, including online databases, integrated library systems, the Internet and electronic journals; experience cataloging in MARC format and on the OCLC system.

Essential Job Functions:

  4. Stay current with social networking sites as they apply to library services

Management Skills: Payments and progress of completed dissertations to publishing platform

Supervisor Responsibilities:  Supervise Library Assistants and Student Assistants as needed
