Closing Date:  NOVEMBER 14, 2014 - @ 4:30 p.m.

SALARY: $4,034 - $5,257 PER MONTH.

POSITION
The Librarian I is an entry-level position that performs a wide range of professional services, including, but not limited to: reference and reading guidance for patrons of all ages; materials selection; program planning and presentation; community outreach; and report writing. This position’s work schedule may require nights, and/or Saturdays.

DUTIES
Offers specialized professional assistance to patrons at public service desks; answers factual ready reference questions as well as in-depth research requests; plans and presents programs; assists patrons in the effective use of library materials, computers and electronic resources; participates in collection development including maintenance of assigned subject area.

In addition to the above primary responsibilities, librarian shares with other librarians, specifically assigned duties such as preparation of subject bibliographies and public relations brochures; performs other related duties or assignments as required. Cross training in all public service areas will be required.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Experience in a public library environment, working with reference materials and providing reader advisory service and a Master’s Degree in Librarianship from an accredited college or university. A valid California Class “C” Driver’s License is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: Computers.
Ability to: effectively perform multiple tasks under pressure; bilingual abilities in Asian and/or Spanish languages are desirable but not required.
