POSITION SUMMARY
To improve the user experience with our extensive print and online collections, the USC Libraries seek a Collection Assessment Librarian whose primary responsibility will be the collection and evaluation of electronic resource usage statistics, collection and maintenance of monographic and serial usage and holdings information, and evaluation of other collections related data. The successful candidate will work with librarians and staff throughout the Libraries to collect, analyze, and report collections-related assessment data and to develop a data-driven approach to achieving strategic collections objectives. This will include maximizing the value of statistics gathered and working with all library units to ensure the development of user-centered collection development and management through data, in order to provide the Libraries with a deeper understanding of user behavior, requirements, and priorities. This is a new position in the Collections Division reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Provides leadership in the application of new technologies related to collection
development/management and collection evaluation processes.
• Provides leadership and coordination in developing, evaluating and assessing the Libraries’
collections to support the University’s research and teaching programs.
• Identifies, formulates and recommends policies and procedures for the efficient collection and compilation of collections usage data.
• Approves or recommends action on licenses for electronic resources and media based on data analysis.
• Prepares collections-related reports and statistics for the efficient operation of the Technical
Services and Collection departments and makes presentations on collections data to library-wide committees and groups as needed.
• Consults with faculty and library staff to assure Library collections data are up-to-date.
• Responsible for assisting librarians and staff with the collection, maintenance, and analysis of data related to collections usage.
• Fosters good communication and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other library users as well as with other departments in the USC Libraries.
• Serves on Library, University or professional organization committees.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program or non-U.S. equivalent is typically required for a librarian appointment at USC.

Desirable qualifications:
• Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of assessment methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative) and experience analyzing data, designing or administering surveys, and in providing recommendations for service improvements.
• Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects involving the participation of various
internal and/or external partners
• Active participation in relevant professional association(s) as demonstrated by serving on major committees, delivering presentations and/or publications.

FACULTY APPOINTMENT RANK/SALARY

Continuing Appointment track rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Librarians at USC have faculty status. Appointment to the continuing appointment track requires the potential to meet the University's requirements for the granting of continuing appointment, which is based on demonstrated excellent performance and the expectation of continued excellence and growth in professional expertise.

BENEFITS

This position is full-time on a 12-month contract. Benefits include a choice of retirement programs, 22 paid vacation days per year, university holidays, a choice of medical and dental plans, and tuition assistance (for employees and eligible dependents).
