Public Services Librarian - Full-Time, Tenure-track Position

(Assignment based on 164 days per year, 7.5 hours per day)

Salary:  $43,976 to $72,907 

Location:  ARC (American River College)

The college will be hiring three faculty members for this discipline/department 


          
General Responsibilities:
  • The Public Services Librarian shall be responsible for the following: helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content
  • maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position;
  • Assisting with curriculum and articulation studies
  • Serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities
  • Assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean
  • Fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues


Responsibilities:              
  • Under the direction of the Dean, and in collaboration with the other librarians, the faculty member shall:
  • Provide reference and information services to students and staff
  • Provide library instruction to students in a variety of settings and formats
  • Design instructional materials
  • Serve as collection development liaison to one or more instructional departments
  • Select materials and maintain an up-to-date collection in those subject areas for print, media, and digital collections
  • Use existing and emerging technologies to enhance library services and instruction
  • Foster and development of information competency skills for students
  • Market library resources and programs to students and faculty
  • Help promote and maintain an effective learning environment in the library

Other duties may include:
  • Designing and/or teaching credit courses
  • Developing and maintaining web resources
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising student help
  • Managing electronic database subscriptions
  • Managing the library website
  • Developing and coordinating services to distance students
  • Developing and implementing library assessment tools

These assignments may be reallocated periodically, and assignments may depend on the interests and qualifications of the library faculty. Librarians may be asked to take the lead on various library services, projects, or focus areas.

Assignments may include days, evenings, on-line, hybrid, weekends, and/or off campus. 

Minimum Qualifications:              
  • Have a master's degree from an accredited institution, completed by August 20, 2015 in Library Science, Library and Information Science; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in Library Science; OR, the equivalent.*
  •  Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

Additional Salary Information:    Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
