Public Service Librarian Full-time - Tenure-track Position

Salary:   $43,976 to $72,907 annually

General Responsibilities:
The Public Services Librarian shall be responsible for the following: helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content;
  • Maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field;
  • Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum and articulation studies;
  • Serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities;
  • Assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean;
  • Fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook. 


Additional Position Summary:   

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction and Technology, and in collaboration with the other librarians, the Public Services: Technology and Electronic Resources Librarian shall be responsible for:
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate online library resources, including the website, social media, mobile technology, and other web-based services and resources.
  • Participate in the administration, optimization, and integration of the Library's discovery service, web access management, research guides, subscription databases, and other systems for the discovery and access of collections.
  • Provide reference and information services to students and staff.
  • Teach library instructions in a variety of settings and formats that may include credit courses.
  • Maintain up-to-date library instructional materials, in print and online.
  • Select materials in subject areas for print and electronic collections.
  • Collaborate in other library service areas.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:              
  • Have a master's degree from an accredited institution, completed by August 20, 2015, in Library Science, Library and Information Science ; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in Library Science; OR, the equivalent.*
  • Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.



*Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent" provision must attach details and explain how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degrees listed above.

Additional Salary Information:    Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
