Put your passion for libraries into action--work at the State Library. Whether you are a recent
graduate of a library school or an experienced librarian, you’ll find a rewarding career at the California State Library.
Applying
for a State job is a bit different than it is for other jobs. First,
you’ll need to
take an online exam; those who pass are eligible to apply for future job
openings. We have online exams for the following positions:
Librarian
and Senior Librarian work in collection development, acquisition, cataloging, reference,
circulation, and preservation of library materials.
Supervising Librarian
and Principal Librarian
develop services and collections and direct the activities
of dedicated staff in a section of the library. They make
recommendations for developing new programs, implementing trends, and
utilizing new technologies to lead this historic institution into the
future.
These positions come with a great retirement and
benefits package.
Take a look at our jobs page for a full description of each position and the application process.
