Salary:  $34.84 - $43.55 Hourly
Library Services Manager (Public Services - Central Library) reports to the Deputy Director and serves on the Senior Management Team. S/he oversees Public Services at the busy Central Library.
Library Services Manager (Public Services - Central Library) supervises four mid-level managers (LII) each of whom is responsible for supervising a specific public service area at the Central Library – user services, youth services, adult services and the virtual branch. S/he provides system-wide support with related policies and procedures and overseas system wide initiatives. S/he also provides staff with the support, guidance, and feedback necessary to carry out their ongoing assignments including supervisory roles. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Library Services Manager informs colleagues of department activities and coordinates work with that of other library departments including the branches.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain effective working relationships with library staff, city colleagues, the public, and members of the library’s various support groups.
  • Possess the appropriate technology skills to supervise the LII responsible for the virtual branch. Possess strong knowledge of current principles and practices of public library service and administration and demonstrate a strong commitment to leading staff in the delivery of excellent customer service. Must be committed to continuing professional development and attentive of new social and library trends.
  • Possess strong supervisory skills including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct the work of subordinate staff.
  • Possess strong project management skills and be able to deliver quality product in a timely manner.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.


Qualification Guidelines:
A Master's Degree in Library Science and at least three years of increasingly responsible professional library experience is required. One year of supervisory experience is desirable.
