The Secretary of State is seeking a full-time, permanent Archivist II who will serve as the digital/electronic records archivist. Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief, Archives Division, the incumbent does the more difficult professional work involved in the acquisition, appraisal, description, management, policy-formation for, and preservation and access of born-digital and digitized records with legal, historical, evidential, research, or administrative value, works cooperatively with staff in the areas of records management and records appraisal to ensure compliance with best practices and statutory and administrative requirements in the statewide management and preservation of electronic records, follows standards for the on-going storage, preservation, and management of digital records, assists in the needs-analysis and development of infrastructure for the preservation, management, and dissemination of electronic records, and does other related work. The position is located in downtown Sacramento, near Light Rail, K Street Mall, and other amenities.

Duties:
Assisting in the development of archival program plans related to appraisal, ingestion, preservation, management, and dissemination of electronic records, drafting and implementing policies and procedures, performing high-level professional work, coordinating the work of the Electronic Records Task Force, developing program guidelines and best practices for electronic records, preparing program reports and statistics, establishing and maintaining contacts with state agencies, the Legislature, Governor’s Office, and other external organizations, making presentations to external constituencies, attending professional conferences.

Desirable Qualifications: 
Assisting in the development of archival program plans related to appraisal, ingestion, preservation, management, and dissemination of electronic records, drafting and implementing policies and procedures, performing high-level professional work, coordinating the work of the Electronic Records Task Force, developing program guidelines and best practices for electronic records, preparing program reports and statistics, establishing and maintaining contacts with state agencies, the Legislature, Governor’s Office, and other external organizations, making presentations to external constituencies, attending professional conferences.

Supplemental Questionnaire: 
The response to the Supplemental Questionnaire questions listed below shall be not more than two pages in length. The essay must be typed in Times New Roman or Arial font, 12-point, single spaced, and with margins set at one inch (1”) on each side. The response must clearly state the professional experience relevant to the Archives program area. Applications submitted without a Supplemental Questionnaire will not be considered. Applicants must answer the following questions:

1) Explain the essential principles and purpose of the management of archival records.

2) Describe your knowledge and experience with managing, preserving, maintaining, and providing access to born-digital or digitized electronic records of historical significance.

3) Share your knowledge and experience with teamwork and leading teams.

Who May Apply: 
Employees who are currently in the Archivist II classification or have current list, transfer or reinstatement eligibility for a permanent, full-time appointment to this classification. Appointments are subject to State Restriction of Appointment (SROA) provisions. All applications will be screened and only the most qualified candidates will be interviewed.
