Description:
Operates and maintains a
library that provides optimum information services to professional staff and
all medical center employees for patient care, work-related study and research.
Essential Functions:
• Selects and acquires text
books and journals to ensure a current and up-to-date collection of material to
support the needs of the medical staff and medical center personnel.
• Provides accurate and
prompt reference service through both manual and on-line services.
• Provides literature not
available in the library through a nation-wide system of inter-library
borrowing.
• Provides instruction and
orientation to all new physicians and staff on the use of the library,
including the use of on-line data bases and reference tools.
• Provides exceptional
training and education when working with clinicians, campus staff, and members.
• Hires, trains/orients,
schedules, assigns, guides and develops staff/team members.
• Handles interpersonal
conflicts effectively.
• In consultation with the
medical librarian, prepares the annual budget and controls expenditures in
accordance with budgetary limits.
• Plans, analyzes and
evaluates library services on an on-going basis to ensure that medical
personnel's information needs are being met and improves existing or implements
new services.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Experience:
• An additional five (5)
years of experience may be substituted for a master's degree.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree, OR
five (5) years of experience in the management of medical center library is
required.
• High School Diploma or
General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification,
Registration
Additional Requirements:
• Experience with on-line
searching required especially medical data bases including including PubMed and
Medline Plus.
• Additional experience in
other retrieval databases such as DynaMed, ProQuest Nurse, OVID preferred.
• Exceptional customer
service, public speaking, organizational skills, respectful of patron and staff
needs, and works wells with other departments.
• Must be able to work in a
Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Additional experience in
other retrieval databases such as DynaMed, ProQuest Nurse, OVID preferred.
• Master's degree in
library science preferred.
Notes:
• Will work at Los Angeles
Medical Center and will be expected to work and travel to Panorama City &
Woodland Hills Medical Center at manager's discretion
