Description
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one regular, full-time position in the class of Library Circulation Supervisor with the Yolo County Library (YCL). Fluency in languages other than English is highly desirable.  Incumbents in these positions are required to work regular evening and weekend hours.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification and is responsible for overseeing the circulation function for the Yolo County library system, and for supervising circulation staff and volunteers at a large branch.
Essential Functions
The following duties are typical of those performed by the incumbent in this classification; however, other duties may also be required.
  • Serves as the lead for library circulation policy, procedures and practices; functions as a resource to staff for questions and issues;
  • Provides high level customer service, mediates customer concerns and addresses any problems or needs at the circulation desk; refers the most difficult problems to the appropriate level;
  • Oversees the circulation function for the Yolo County Library, ensuring that patrons receive the best library service;
  • Provides and directs hold requests, patron registration, check-in and check-out services and assistance to library patrons of all ages; processes fines and other patron charges;
  • Cultivates and maintains good relationships; ensures that community groups are kept informed of library programs and services; assists in coordinating branch library publicity;
  • Recruits, orients, trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of circulation staff including extra help and volunteers; models expected behaviors;
  • Prepares circulation desk and staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage at all times;
  • Assists patrons by answering reference questions and in locating and selecting library materials; directs patrons to appropriate community resources;
  • May participate in collection development;
  • Maintains branch financial records and maintains inventory of branch office/business supplies;
  • Keeps abreast of library developments by attending workshops and educational programs and reading periodicals and specialized literature;
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in the current policies, procedures, and systems; offer recommendations for change; and
  • Serves as a positive and motivational team leader as well as a positive and effective member of a peer group.
  • The position may also require the performance of different essential or marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
