PURPOSE:
California State University, Monterey Bay invites applications for the position of Interim Library Director. The person selected for this position will serve as the university's administrative leader for the Tanimura and Antle Memorial Library and its services and will report to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • The Interim Director of the Library is responsible for the management of library resources including oversight of the budget, personnel (both faculty and staff), and the physical, informational, and technical resources necessary to provide quality library services to the campus.
  • The Interim Director leads various library departments including reference, circulation, technical services, interlibrary loan, and archives and special collections.
  • The Interim Director additionally oversees library programming and works to advance a service oriented environment and maintain forward looking library collections that advance teaching, learning, research, and service.
  • The Interim Director of the Library serves as a member of the CSU Council of Library Deans (COLD) which promotes, plans, and implements CSU system-wide library initiatives.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association;
  • Demonstrated management/leadership skills, including experience in project management, budget management and personnel management, including faculty RTP review
  • Experience working with diverse students and faculty to promote student success and faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and the strong interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with various campus constituencies (e.g. academic departments,  IT, etc.) and external groups;
  • Experience integrating relevant emerging technologies into library service.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working with library consortiums;
  • Experience with library assessment programs;
  • Experience in a collective bargaining environment;
  • Experience developing projects, activities, or services responsive to changing institutional needs.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.  Candidate identified for hire must consent to a criminal background check.


CONFLICT OF INTEREST DESIGNATION:
  • This position is a designated position in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.
