Job Summary
California State University San Marcos invites applications
for the position of Associate Dean of the Library. The Associate Dean reports
to the Dean of the Library and is responsible for leadership of Library
operations, including the functioning of the Library administration unit;
oversight and projection of the library budget; and responsibility for
maintenance and planning for the Kellogg Library facility. As a member of the
Library's senior management team, the Associate Dean participates in the development
of a shared vision for the Library that contributes to the mission of the
University; anticipates, initiates and responds to changes in the environment;
and keeps abreast of trends that impact higher education and the library
profession to ensure that the Library and the University achieve their goals.
The Associate Dean oversees and projects spending of the Library's $3.5 million
budget, including collaboration with the Head of Collection Management &
Technical Services on collection budget allocations and expenditures, and
provides leadership for space planning and works with Library staff and
stakeholders to proactively plan for space changes in the eleven-year-old
Kellogg Library facility. The Associate Dean directs and evaluates the work of
approximately 30 library staff and serves as the primary liaison with Human
Resources for staff and personnel matters including recruitment, training, and
evaluation.
Minimum qualifications and experience:
- Master of Library and Information Science (ALA accredited) or its equivalent plus five years of progressively responsible work experience in academic libraries, which includes a minimum of three years supervising the work of others.
- Experience managing academic library budgets.
- Project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and administrators to set and accomplish strategic goals and to cultivate a collegial environment.
- Experience working with diverse populations of students, faculty and staff.
- Proven ability to identify current and future challenges and think creatively and innovatively to develop feasible solutions.
- Record of accomplishment sufficient to achieve tenure at the rank of Associate Librarian or Librarian.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Work experience in a public higher education setting or multi-library system.
- Experience in a collective bargaining and shared governance environment.
- Experience managing space planning and/or small construction projects.
- Experience securing grant funding.
- Knowledge of California State University System policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to advance the University's goals in the area of diversity and inclusive excellence.
Successful candidate for this position will be offered the
position contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated
reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is
required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083
as a condition of employment.
This position is a "designated position" in the
California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The incumbent in this position is required to
file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair
Political Practices Commission.
