Job Description
East Los Angeles College is seeking applicants for two (2) full-time 10-month contract librarian positions scheduled to start Fall 2015.

East Los Angeles College seeks dynamic, user-centered, innovative librarians to lead the library’s efforts in the integration of up-to-date technologies and teaching methods into library instruction as well as to contribute to other areas of academic librarianship. These positions may include work in evenings and on weekends at the main campus and off-site locations.

Minimum Qualifications               
  1. Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science or the equivalent.

Eligibility              
  • Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant’s expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Duties and Responsibilities (Including, but are not limited to):
  • Provide in-person and online reference service to students, faculty and staff using various print and electronic resources;
  • Conduct library instruction sessions in collaboration with faculty;
  • Develop and teach Library Science courses;
  • Actively promote the use of library resources and services by faculty, students and staff;
  • Plan and execute outreach programs to feeder high schools and the community;
  • Develop and coordinate projects with other librarians and faculty to teach research skills workshops;
  • Integrate information competency into courses across the curriculum;
  • Assist with the development and management of the library’s electronic resources;
  • Design and produce curricular materials, research guides, information-literacy tutorials and other resources in print, web-based, and multimedia formats;
  • Actively participate in the development and assessment of learning outcomes, including analysis and the use of results to improve student learning and access to resources;
  • Assess and promote the use of emerging technologies for library services and operations;
  • Collaborate with the department chair and librarians in administrative requirements such as program reviews and self-evaluation reports for accreditation;
  • Work at the main campus and off-site locations;
  • Work schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; schedule may vary based upon student/library needs;
  • Serve as an active participant on campus committees;
  • Provide training and work directions to library staff and student workers;
  • Perform other librarian duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications   
  • Experience in general librarianship such as instruction, reference, and public and technical services;
  • Experience serving a population with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design, delivery, and assessment of information-competency workshops and credit and non-credit library science courses;
  • Proficiency in the development and assessment of course and program learning outcomes, including the use of assessment results to improve student learning, access and retention;
  • Experience teaching online courses, hybrid courses and web-enhanced courses;
  • Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and experience designing and implementing engaging learning activities;
  • Proficiency in designing and developing library services and instructional materials in web-based and multimedia formats;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging educational technologies including learning management systems;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written);
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish positive relationships with students and faculty;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the department chair, fellow librarians and classified staff;
  • Experience working with underprepared students and awareness of the library’s role in facilitating student success in a community college;
  • Leadership skills in effectively planning and implementing library programs, services and operations.

Salary and Benefits        
  • Salary ranges from $51,020 to $79,440 for the 10-month academic year, depending on experience and professional preparation. An excellent benefit package, which includes medical, vision, dental, and life insurance, is available for the employee and eligible dependents.        


EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
A college selection committee will review all applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications in the areas of education, training and experience as determined from the application package and recommendations from references.

Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening.

Based upon the committee recommendation, finalists will interview with the president and vice president, who will make the final selection.

Applicants will be required to file the application using web-based software to create an applicant profile account, allowing documents to be saved and uploaded as attachments. Application materials will not be accepted by Fax, Mail or E-Mail. All applications must be filed by 4:00 p.m. on April 24, 2015. All materials submitted will become property of East Los Angeles College. After review of application materials by the selection committee, candidates will be contacted only if selected for interviews.
